Illinois State Universities Retirement System (SURS) is considering investing in $300m (€251.7m) in real assets next year and is looking for relevant investment managers.
With the help of investment consultant Callan, the $19.5bn pension fund intends to hire qualified real estate equity, real estate debt, infrastructure equity and agriculture equity fund managers to allocate between $50m to $100m per fund.
Illinois SURS intends to limit its real estate equity fund strategy to closed-ended funds. The other investments could be for either closed or open-ended funds.
The pension fund’s real assets portfolio was valued at $1.3bn as of the end of June 2020, comprising real estate and infrastructure assets.
