Kadens Capital and Athanor Urban Partners have jointly acquired an initial portfolio of residential real estate assets in Berlin for an unnamed institutional investor.

The assets will be managed by Kadens and Athanor, respectively, a Frankfurt-based real estate private equity investor and its platform company – an investment and asset manager – which sourced the properties, the firms said in a joint statement.

The move was in collaboration with their property management platform VeriDomo, they added.

The companies said that the initial portfolio was assembled through four individual acquisitions in “highly sought-after micro-locations”.

Together, Kadens and Athanor now oversee a Berlin residential portfolio with an aggregated value of approximately €500m, backed by different institutional investors and family offices.

Lars Oldenburg, principal at Kadens Capital, said: “Over the last [few] years, we have built a vertically integrated set-up together with our platform companies Athanor and VeriDomo.

“The continued growth of our assets under management in Berlin is a testament to the positive feedback we receive from our investors and a great example for the benefits of our propco/opco investment strategy.”

Ali M Asefoglu, founding partner of both Athanor and VeriDomo, added: “The current market cycle offers a unique opportunity for us as a specialised operating partner with a strong on-the-ground network.

“Our clear focus is on densification and upgrading of ageing residential stock through targeted ESG measures to improve energy performance and tenant comfort.”
