Former Madison International Realty colleagues Matthias Cordier and Derek Jacobson have joined forces to launch Kadens Capital, a real estate private equity company.

Cordier and Jacobson bring 30 years’ experience in private equity real estate to Kadens, which will focus on growth-orientated real estate assets across multiple asset classes in major European markets.

The pair said Kadens will seek to leverage additional value by acquiring interests in operating partners, platforms, general partners and asset managers while providing them access to a network of global capital sources, leasing and tenant relationships as well as technology and services.

Jacobson said: ”We feel confident that we can leverage our strong track record of investing into world-class real estate with experienced partners by actively engaging with and sometimes buying into our partners.

”At the same time, we provide a diverse and long-standing global sourcing network. That’s quite unique in European real estate private equity.

Jacobson said Kadens had secured €200m of equity commitments which have been deployed into more than €500m of assets.

He added that investments are usually underwritten medium-to long-term and will be structured as on-balance-sheet investments or programmatic joint ventures during the starting period.

Kadens will also consider the use of investment vehicles in the future.

Cordier said: ”We are looking for investment opportunities requiring in-depth expertise and providing substantial growth potential due to underlying economic or social developments.

”We mainly invest into real estate and platforms with the people who make and manage them. We look for strong assets and partners.”

Jacobson was former co-CIO as well as a member of the management board and investment committees at Madison International.

Among other roles, Cordier served as managing director at Madison International where he was responsible for investment sourcing, structuring and execution across DACH, Northern Europe and CEE including the coordination of joint venture partners, investors and advisors.

Maximilian Marquardt has also joined Kadens as a founding member and principal. He has extensive real estate investment and asset management experience, in Europe and the US.

The company’s team is completed by vice president Constantin Stanciu and senior analyst Mohamed Lalioui.
