Deborah Orida is taking over the role of head of real assets at Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments), replacing Edwin Cass who has taken on the newly created role of chief investment officer.
Orida, a senior managing director, was most recently global head of active equities and joined CPP Investments in 2009.
Cass had had previously been chief investment strategist from 2014 to 2017 before heading up real assets.
The internal moves are part of efforts to strengthen investment governance as the Canadian pension fund grows in size. It is projected to reach C$1trn (€630bn) by 2033.
“Our investment governance structure has served CPP Investments well for many years,” said president and chief executive Mark Machin.
“The time is right in CPP Investments’ evolution to create a dedicated, fit-for-purpose, chief investment officer role.
”Ed is very well positioned for this role, with his considerable investment expertise, enterprise-wide knowledge and global experience.”
