Capital Dynamics has expanded its long-duration energy storage portfolio with the acquisition of a ready-to-build battery energy storage system (BESS) project in the Republic of Ireland for an undisclosed sum.
The asset, located in Knockanure, County Kerry, marks the private asset manager’s first energy infrastructure transaction in Ireland.
The project has secured 170MW of grid connection capacity at the adjacent 110kV Knockanure substation and obtained planning permission in October 2025. It will operate as a four-hour long-duration energy storage facility.
Capital Dynamics acquired the project from a group of private shareholders.
Barney Coles, senior managing director and co-head of clean energy at Capital Dynamics, said: “We are pleased to announce our first investment in the Republic of Ireland and add to our growing portfolio of long-duration energy storage projects in the broader Irish Single Electricity Market. At a time when renewable generation continues to grow, BESS projects are required to offer local businesses and communities an efficient and fast way to strengthen energy security and grid resilience.
“The Republic of Ireland represents one of the most compelling storage markets in Europe and combines a high and rising share of renewable generation with a clear policy commitment to decarbonise its grid. Taken together, this creates a structural demand for BESS solutions, and we look forward to supporting the build-out of the country’s low-carbon energy network.”
