Global energy storage owner-operator BW ESS and Munich-based energy storage developer Mirai Power are partnering to co-develop up to 1GW of energy storage projects in Germany.

The pair has signed the joint development agreement, outlining plans to jointly originate and develop energy storage projects in the southern part of the country.

Roberto Jiménez, executive director of BW ESS, said: “The MIRAI team share many of the same attributes as our own team – they are pragmatic, move fast and have shown considerable commercial acumen.

“Most importantly, they share our commitment to unlocking the value of energy storage. We’re excited to see the opportunities this partnership creates as we expand our presence in the German market.”

Marco Frascati, managing director of Mirai Power, said: “Our mission is to contribute to a sustainable and reliable energy supply – through future-proof, innovative BESS projects strategically sited throughout Europe.

“Southern Germany is a region with huge energy storage development potential, and our partnership with a global leader like BW ESS will help us accelerate our efforts to decarbonise the energy system.”
