APG Asset Management has appointed Patrick Kanters to oversee its Asia infrastructure strategy on an interim basis following the departure of Hans-Martin Aerts, head of infrastructure and private natural capital for Asia Pacific.

Kanters, who serves as APG’s chief investment officer of private investments, will work alongside the regional infrastructure team while the search for a permanent successor is underway, the Dutch manager confirmed.

Aerts leaves APG after nearly 25 years with the institutional investor and its predecessor firm.

Announcing his departure on LinkedIn, Aerts said he will take time over the coming months to consider his next role while remaining open to broader opportunities across the industry.

Aerts joined APG’s parent organisation, ABP Investments, the investment arm of the €530bn Dutch civil service pension fund, in 2001 as a portfolio manager in global equities.

He subsequently served as senior portfolio manager for structured finance from 2003, managing privately placed mortgages, leases and project finance loans.

In 2007, when APG was spun out from ABP as an asset manager, Aerts relocated to Hong Kong to establish APG’s first Asia Pacific presence.

During his tenure leading the regional infrastructure and private natural capital strategy, the platform expanded its global footprint to nearly €40bn in equity investments, supported by a team of more than 60 professionals across four regional offices.
