AIP Management has acquired a 312MW Swedish onshore wind portfolio to seed a newly established Nordic operational renewables platform, Project Winter.

The Storebrand-backed infrastructure fund manager bought the 71MW Aldermyrberget wind farm in northern Sweden and the 241MW Överturingen wind farm in central Sweden.

The acquisitions establish an initial operational footprint spanning two Swedish price zones, with AIP intending to expand the Project Winter platform through further operating wind acquisitions across the Nordics.

No financial details were disclosed.

Domenico Tripodi, partner and co-head of investments at AIP, said: “Swedish onshore wind has repriced sharply since 2021, driven by zonal price divergence rather than anything to do with the assets themselves.

“That has created an opportunity to acquire high-quality operating capacity in a market where very few are transacting. We built a strategy to acquire into that, and these two assets are the beginning of it.”

Kasper Hansen, CEO and managing partner at AIP, said: “Project Winter is an example of the approach we take across AIP. We look for markets where long-term fundamentals are sound and where we can see the opportunity to create real long-term value, build conviction early and then move decisively when opportunities emerge.

“These acquisitions reflect both our long experience in the Nordic energy sector and our focus on creating value through disciplined entry rather than financial engineering.”

AIP Management is a Copenhagen-headquartered infrastructure manager originally established by PKA and now majority-owned by Storebrand.
