Actis has acquired a 171MW operating onshore wind portfolio of six assets in Poland from CVC DIF as the seed asset for a newly created Central & Eastern Europe (CEE) renewable energy platform, building on the success of its first regional platform launched four years ago.
The infrastructure investor has invested an undisclosed sum to acquire Klara Renewables, the operating onshore wind portfolio with approximately 275MW of hybridisation potential through co-located solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.
Actis, which established its first CEE renewable energy platform, Rezolv Energy, four years ago and has since scaled it to 2.3GW, said this second vehicle targets up to 1.5GW of capacity across onshore wind, solar and BESS.
The new platform will target further value creation by acquiring and developing late-stage projects, with a focus on co-locating hybrid energy technologies using Klara’s existing grid connections.
Jaroslava Korpanec, head of CEE at Actis, said: “In our view, Poland is one of the most exciting markets for energy investment in Europe, benefitting from an open, regulated electricity market and strong institutions and regulatory frameworks. We are looking forward to building a high-quality generation platform to meet that need.
“As energy security and independence continue to be front of mind for governments and consumers alike, we’ll be working hard to build and operate the critical assets that can help Poland manage its energy transition, support its competitiveness and bolster its resilience for the long-term.”
CVC DIF acquired the six projects at the ready-to-build stage in 2020 and 2021 through its DIF Infrastructure VI fund, managing them through procurement, financing and construction into full operation.
The firm said divestment marks a successful full-cycle investment outcome for the fund.
Andrew Freeman, partner and head of divestments at CVC DIF, said: “We are delighted to announce the divestment of Klara Renewables, a high-quality portfolio that we have taken from ready-to-build to full operation.
“This transaction is a strong example of the value our hands-on asset management approach can create, delivering attractive returns for our investors while advancing the energy transition in Central and Eastern Europe.”
