UK - Cushman & Wakefield, the global real estate consultants and investment firm, has appointed Bryan Laxton as chief executive officer of its UK business from January 2009.

Reporting to Paul Bacan, CEO for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region at C&W, Laxton takes over an operation with 760 employees in seven offices across the UK.

The role is newly-formed and Laxton will work closely with the UK management committee and department heads to oversee the day-to-day running of the business as well as its continued expansion.

This is an internal move as Laxton was previously CEO of the firm's 120-strong UK capital markets team.

David Erwin, a partner in the firm and current head of its investment agency operation, will take over  Laxton's capital markets.

Laxton, who is also managing director of Cushman & Wakefield Finance, joined the firm in 1981 as a specialist in financial and strategic advice.

He became a partner in 1989 before joining the UK management board in 2003 and the EMEA equivalent in 2006 when he took up his role as CEO of the UK capital markets team.
