One of the biggest logistics developers in the US has set up offices in Poland and Germany as it plans to invest €1bn in Europe.

Dallas-based Hillwood said it would make direct and indirect investments in logistics in Europe through acquisitions, developments and joint venture with other developers.

Hillwood Europe is expected to deploy the capital over the next three to four years, and has already bought buildings and development sites in Poland.

It has also hired local expertise to oversee operations at two new offices in Poland and Germany.

Chairman Ross Perot, Jr said: “Unlike most investors recently interested in Europe, this is a long-term commitment based on building our business through acquisitions and development.

“We are comfortable doing this one building at a time.”

Senior vice president Hubert Michalak will be responsible for building the business in Poland from its Warsaw office.

Michalak was a partner at AIG/Lincoln for 12 years where he was responsible for industrial and logistics projects in Poland.

Senior vice president Peter Schuijlenburg, based in Frankfurt, will lead Hillwood’s business in Germany.

Schuijlenburg was previously regional head of northern Europe for Prologis and a partner at Palmira Capital Partners where he was responsible for the company’s industrial platform in Germany, Holland, Belgium and Scandinavia.
