US healthcare real estate investment trust Omega Healthcare Investors and UK investor Foundation Partners have acquired care home operator Runwood Homes for £615m (€737.1m).

Runwood, the UK’s sixth-largest for-profit care home group, operates 55 homes comprising 3,930 registered beds across England. The business will be operated by Evera Living, Foundation Partners’ care platform.

The acquisition expands an existing partnership between Omega and Foundation, which aims to build a larger UK care business through further investment in the sector.

Evera Living has appointed former Spire Healthcare chief operating officer John Forrest as CEO, while Vishul Seewoolall, formerly COO of Signature Care, will become COO.

“This is a landmark investment that reflects Omega’s ambition to back outstanding healthcare businesses over the long term and our commitment to the UK care sector,” said Vikas Gupta, Omega’s chief investment officer.

Also this week, investors announced over €1bn of hotel deals across Europe, with major hotels changing hands in London, Barcelona, Vienna and Brussels. Scandic Hotels also completed the acquisition of the hotel operations of Dalata Hotel Group in a deal worth €500m.
