AXA Real Estate has changed its name to AXA Investment Managers – Real Assets as the company begins to invest in the infrastructure sector.

Until recently, AXA Real Estate had only been active in the sector through debt financing.

The investment manager, reportedly moving into direct infrastructure investment late last year, recently took a stake in a West African utility company.

AXA said it bought the 18.6% stake in Eranove from Bouygues.

The fund manager began investing in infrastructure debt in 2013 on behalf of French insurer AXA.

The investment manager said it had “broadened” its offering in recent years and that real-asset investments were now a key component of its global multi-asset offering.
