The new distribution centre, totalling around 40,000 m2, will be realised on a six-hectare redevelopment plot at the Ringdijk in Ridderkerk, South Rotterdam. It will be built in line with BREEAM Very Good standards and is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.

Panattoni announced in June that it was launching its first Dutch development, totalling 43,000 m2 across two warehouse facilities, in the southern city of Roermond.

Commenting on the latest project, Jeroen Gerritsen, general manager of Panattoni Netherlands, said: 'Ridderkerk is the second project in the Netherlands that we can announce in a short time. In the seven months that Panattoni has been active in the Netherlands, we started in Roermond with the development of approximately 43,000 m2 and we are now adding this second prominent project to our portfolio.'

He added: 'The corona crisis has accelerated the development of online ordering and parcel delivery services. The demand for this type of urban locations in the South Rotterdam region is increasing significantly and we would like to meet that demand.

'We are therefore looking for transformation locations such as this one in Ridderkerk in order to be able to respond to this need in the market.'

Panattoni Netherlands is part of Panattoni Europe, which leads the market in Europe for industrial warehouse development and has headed PropertyEU's logistics developer ranking for four years in a row. The company has developed 10 million m2 in Europe since starting operations in the region.
