The real estate arm of British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (bcIMC) has completed the build-up of its global team with the appointment of two senior members.

QuadReal Property Group said it had appointed Jay Kwan as managing director for Europe and Jameson Weber as global head of special situations to complete its international leadership team.

Kwan will focus on building the international portfolio with an emphasis on investing in global cities in Europe. He formerly held senior positions at TPG Real Estate, Grove International Partners and Soros Private Funds Management.

Weber, who held senior positions at Hightower, Oaktree Capital Management and Cerberus Capital Management, will focus on global investments across technology-enabled and alternative real estate, companies and special situations.

QuadReal’s CEO Dennis Lopez said: “Global cities are the foundation of QuadReal’s acquisition and development strategy around the world.”

Lopez said Kwan and Weber bring important experience to QuadReal. “Their knowledge, personal networks and demonstrated expertise will help us continue to unlock opportunity and create value in the world’s most economically powerful metropolitan areas.”

Kwan and Weber will join an international team that includes managing director of Americas Timothy Works, Peter Kim, the managing director of Asia and international portfolio manager Lucy Fletcher.

The team is led by Lopez, who joined from AXA IM–Real Assets last May, and president of international real estate Jonathan Dubois-Phillips.

Remco Daal, the president of Canadian real estate, said: “At QuadReal, we plan to balance the portfolio in coming years by looking outside Canada while also increasing our presence at home.

“Our goal is to ensure that our portfolio is actively managed and has a foundation of income-producing properties and programs that deliver attractive returns across economic cycles.”
